At my school, Taylor University, we have a tradition called "Ringdown". For normal people a ringdown happens like this:
1. Girl gets engaged.
2. Girl tells no one (well, maybe a few) about it and gives the ring to her PA (RA in normal college world)
3. PA sends out announcement about a floor event, floor meeting, anything to get everyone on the floor together.
4. All day people speculate if a ringdown is going to happen, who it is, etc.
5. "Floor event" time comes and everyone gathers on the floor in the hallway.
6. Lights go off and a candle is passed around with the ring attached by a ribbon. We also sing.
7. Once it has been passed around for enough girls to see it, engaged girl blows out the candle and everyone then knows who it is.
8. Much screaming ensues.
On May 5th this is what happened.
1. Floor event is announced, called "Suitey Pies" where much consumption of pie will occur and sweatpants should be worn.
2. Girls gather for said floor event and consume many pies.
3. Lights go off. (Note: We now realize it's a Ringdown and are all SUPER confused because the important step #4 was missed.)
4. Candle is passed around and the flame goes out on Kieron (who is not dating anyone at the time) and there is much confusion until the candle is relit.
5. 2G girls begin rushing on the floor.
5. Candle continues to be passed around, it gets to me, and I attempt to pass it on.
6. On my right is Hilarie who then blows out the candle while I'm holding it.
7. Lights go on and I'm sure I have the most confused look ever on my face.
I hope you see now where the ringdown tradition has been broken, because I wasn't engaged. Yet.
My first thought: "Dear God, I hope they don't bring him out on a computer. That would be lame."
Second thought: "Oh good. I'm in sweatpants."

Up the stairs and around the corner comes Paul in his suit and white tie with a beautiful bouquet of red roses. He takes the candle from me and not so gracefully gets the ring off of the ribbon. He's saying something but I'm mostly shocked and while I had comprehended what was happening, I was still trying to quickly process it. At some point he said "Will you marry me?" and I figured that was where I was supposed to say, "Yes".
8. Much screaming ensued and then we went to McDonalds.
