Anway, a few weeks ago, I had this conversation with Paul Nurkkala:
Paul Nurkkala: Thank you so much! You are a saint.
Ashley: Oh, I wouldn't go quite that far.
Ashley: but you are very welcome.
Paul Nurkkala: Re-writing from the beginning was enough trouble. Then figuring that.. yuck.
Paul Nurkkala: Heck yes I would!
Paul Nurkkala: (saint means christ-one)
Ashley: christ-one?
Paul Nurkkala: One who is in christ?
Paul Nurkkala: Christian?
Ashley: oh, gotcha
Ashley: I didn't get that from Christ-One.
Ashley: I've never thought of it that way.
Paul Nurkkala: Yeah! I prefer that to Christian, actually.
Ashley: really?
Ashley: why?
Paul Nurkkala: Christian is starting to become more of a culture than someone who believes in christ.
Ashley: very true.
Paul Nurkkala: So..
Paul Nurkkala: It makes it more of a lifestyle than a culture.
Paul Nurkkala: Okay.. If I want to .tar this..
Then we went back to code-talk that I don't think any of you want to read about ; ] It's super cool though! Anyway.
The important word to discuss here is "saint".
I learned a lesson from God. Thinking that I am a Saint is an interesting perspective on myself. When you get a new perspective on yourself, everything changes. Example: you believe that you can't shoot the goal, then you probably can't. Then something happens, you believe you can shoot the goal, and eventually you do. Many of us have learned that.
So, what happens when I truly believe that I am a Saint? I don't know yet; I'm figuring that out still. I'm still somewhat in shock mode. (I know Paul, this conversation was awhile ago, but the meaning of it didn't truly hit me until awhile later, go ahead and call me slow, I know you're laughing).
This was again brought to my attention at WinterJam 2010. If you didn't go, you missed out. There was a relatively new band called Revive that was one of the opening acts. Quickly I learned the chorus to their first song "Chorus of the Saints". Again that Saint word! The song, or rather, the chorus, got stuck in my head for at least a week before I caved in and bought the album. Zeroing in on that song, I finally learned the rest of the words.
There's the redeemed lost again
Confused with doubts and suffering
But if only they'd open up their eyes
And see the beauty of their God, who has never left their side
This is the chorus of the saints singing "Hallelujah! Our God is faithful!"(2x)
We the redeemed are lost again
With misplaced trust and desire to complain
But if only we'd open up our eyes
And see the beauty of our God
Who has never left our side
This is the chorus of the saints singing "Hallelujah! Our God is faithful!"(2x)
So open up your eyes
And see the beauty of your God
Who has never left your side
This is the chorus of the saints singing "Hallelujah! Our God is faithful!"(2x)
Then I learned a second lesson. Not only am I a Saint, but my continual thoughts and praise should go to God. Why? The reason I am a Saint is because of Jesus Christ, who died for me. That's it.
